Tart, rich and sweet, our Elderberry Dark Balsamic is a taste sensation, with zesty hints of juicy purple elderberry.
Elderberry is the dark, purple berry of the European or Black Elder tree. They grow in the warmer areas of Europe, North America, Asia, and Northern Africa.
The berries, found in small bunches, are quite tart and need to be cooked to be eaten. Traditionally, Native Americans used the berry to treat infections, while the ancient Egyptians used them to improve their complexions and heal burns.
Today, the Elderberry is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world. The berries are high in Vitamin C, dietary fiber, phenolic acid (powerful antioxidants) and are rich in anthocyanins (anti-inflammatory agents).
Research has shown that elderberries appear to decrease the length and severity of flu symptoms. Also, they may support heart health and have a variety of anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, and anti-inflammatory effects.
Use in marinades, shrubs, dressings, glazes, desserts, with fresh or roasted fruits, and in baking. Roast sweet potatoes or yams and finish with Elderberry Vinegar.
Sensational when paired with Persian Lime, Eureka Lemon or any herbed olive oils. Create a sweet/heat marinade with Chipotle, Harissa, Cayenne Pepper or Baklouti Chili Pepper Oil.
